We’re excited to share the meticulous process that our Office Moving Alliance Europe (OMA) member’s Niemi Palvelut Oy undertook to move the entire botanical collection of the Kuopio Natural History Museum.

This involved careful cleaning, packing, and relocating these precious specimens, some dating back to the 1800s, into custom-made boxes. Each item was handled with gloves, and they used microfiber cloths and vacuum cleaners to ensure their preservation.

To protect the integrity of the collection, the plants were frozen at -30°C for a week, preventing any unwanted materials from being transferred. This process allowed Niemi to safely relocate Finland’s largest non-university-affiliated botanical collection to its new home, where it was shelved in perfect order.

Additionally, Niemi moved the museum’s reference library and archives, which contain material dating back to the 1700s.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved in preserving this invaluable piece of natural history!
